New cytostatic, contraceptive and anti-inflammatory compositions contain an active compound, obtainable for example from an extract, with a low content of tannin, prepared from Uncaria tomentosa (Willd.) at the stage of fresh liber of yellow brown colour. The active compound produces an inhibition of the utilization of <s3>sH-thymidine by the sarcome-ascites cells of the mouse according to Weitzel et al; this inhibition being at least of the same degree of magnitude than that of the active compound methotrexat <sR>s, used as a standard substance in this test. |
