A data-connection device is used to gather information which is stored on corresponding pages of a number of remotely located databases which are all accessible via the public telephone network. The connection device is designed in such a way that it first transmits a call via the telephone network to a first database whose number is stored in an internal memory of the device. The connection device then receives data from this first database which contain a list of telephone numbers which are in each case allocated to a database from which the user can receive information. The connection device is designed in such a way that all the databases whose telephone numbers have been received are called and the data received from the called databases are recorded in the connection device.
