Temp.-responsive release mechanism for fire extinguisher - has spring loaded pin kept cocked by balls engaging with pin collar and released by bursting of ampoule

A spring (5) between a pin flange (4) and the shoulder of a bush (6) keeps the pin (3) cocked and secured by a cotter pin (16). The upper end of the pin has a collar (7) and shoulder (8), by which balls (9) keep the pin retracted, even when the cotter pin is removed. The balls are pressed radially towards the collar by the conical surface of the bush, pressed downwards by a destructible ampoule (11) resting with its upper tip against the underside of an adjusting nut (12). The mechanism is activated when the ampoule bursts, due to high temp. allowing the bush to release the balls and the pin to shoot forward under spring action.
