PURPOSE:To provide a friction material having excellent resistance to wear, cold and snow, by pressing and heat-treating a mixture consisting of copper, tungsten, cobalt, graphite, red lead or silica, asbestos or rock wool, iron and a phenolic resin. CONSTITUTION:5-30wt% solvent-free liquid phenolic resin is added to 70- 95wt% mixture consisting of 1-20wt% copper, 5-10wt% tungsten, 4-7wt% cobalt, 3-30wt% graphite, 515wt% red lead and/or silica, 3-10wt% asbestos and/ or rock wool, and 30-70wt% iron. The resulting mixture is molded at a pressure of 150kg/cm<2> and at 80-250 deg.C for 10-25min. The resulting homogeneous kneaded product is heat-treated at 150-250 deg.C for 8-16hr. The obtained friction material is used as a brake shoe for railway vehicles, etc., does not cause sparking nor attack opposite members. |
