A method for vulcanizing an insulating layer of an electrical cable. In a continuous process for manufacturing an electrical cable, which comprises an electrically conductive non-metallic layer extruded outside and preferably simultaneously with an electrically insulating layer, a method of vulcanizing the insulating layer comprises passing the cable (3) through a gas-filled pressure chamber (1) in which it is supplied with heat for vulcanizing the insulating layer, the heat being supplied completely or partly in the form of heat due to electrical resistance heating generated by electrical energy transferred to the conductive layer. In one example, the electrical energy is transferred to the conductive layer by means of at least one electrode (2, 4, 5 or 7 to 10) making contact against the layer. Alternatively, the electrical energy could be transferred in a capacitive way, or magnetically by generating eddy currents in the conductive layer. |
