PURPOSE:To prevent misoperation of a switch and improve reliability of a driving gear, by providing a gear action element in a step switch gear and performing operation of a switch step with a limit wheel on way of the closing position of a sliding cover. CONSTITUTION:A sliding cover for a vehicle roof is open-close operated through a cable engaged to a driving pinion 41 rotated by a motor 6 with suitable operation of a selector switch 1 switching direction of rotation of the motor 6. Here a limit switch 13 is interposed in an electric circuit of the motor 6, and the switch 13 is closed at a closing position of the sliding cover by action of the negative cam 22a of a limit wheel 22 engaged to a switch wheel 46 coaxially provided of the driving pinion 41. The closing of said limit switch 13 operates electric conduction to a latch relay 17 to open a switch 14 and stop the motor 6.
