Aqueous glycol compositions containing conventional corrosion inhibitors are improved by the addition of a beta -dicarbonyl compounds having the formula R1-C(O)-C(R2)(R3)-C(O)-R4 where R1 and R4 are independently alkyl groups of 1-4 carbons, and alkoxy groups, of 1-4 carbons, R2 and R3 are hydrogen, hydroxyl, alkyl groups of 1-4 carbons, or acetyl groups, with the proviso that R1 and R2 can be joined to form a 5 or 6 membered ring when R3 is hydrogen and R4 is an alkyl group of 1-4 carbons, with the proviso that R1 and R4 can be joined to form a 5 membered ring when R2 is hydrogen and R3 is an alkyl group of 1-4 carbons, with the proviso that R1 and R4 can be joined to form the 1,2-phenylene group when R2 and R3 are hydrogen, and with the proviso that R1 and R4 can be joined to form the 1,2 phenylene group when R2 is hydroxyl and R3 is the 2-hydroxy 1,3-dione-indanyl-2 group.
