The I.C. engine incorporates fuel and air inlets, an exhaust outlet, and a hollow cylindrical stator containing a rotor. One or more cam rings are provided for the rotor, and a cylinder head is mounted on the stator. A number of cylindrical bores are formed in the rotor with their axes parallel to its own and arranged in a circle round it. The bores contain reciprocating pistons which act via profiled portions against the cam rings, so that they perform expansion and exhaust strokes, longer than the induction and compression strokes, to a four-stroke cycle over 360 deg. of rotation. The design is such that the induction and compression strokes take place over less than 90 deg., and the expansion and exhaust strokes over more than 90 deg., in a cycle.
|
