PURPOSE:To easily obtain optical fiber optics with a high dimensional accuracy, by forming the second glass coated layer by subjecting an organometallic compound to hydrolysis and dehydrating condensation treatment as a starting substance. CONSTITUTION:First of all, anorganometallic compound prepared by compounding the composition so that the compound has a refractive index which is lower than that of the first glass coated material 14, is used as the starting substance, and a highly viscous solution is prepared by adding alcohol and distilled water to the compound and by performing hydrolysis on a part of the comound. This solution is sprayed upon the whole surface of a substrate 10 on which the first glass coated material 14 is formed, and applied on the surface through a coating means, such as dipping, etc. Then, heat treatment is carried out at about 100 deg.C and the coated film is dried to become a gel. This gelled film is then heated in the range of 400-800 deg.C so that the gel is dehydrated and condensed. In this way, the second glass coated layer 16 which covers the first glass coated layer 14 and the substrate 10, can be produced. |
