<p>The wire is cooled by a fluid containing dissolved polymers having inverse solubility characteristics, i.e precipitating onto the wire at high temp and reverting to a solution when the wire temp has been lowered sufficiently. The cooling conditions are regulated so that an ultra-fine, perlitic microstructure is obtained, which is free from bainite and martensite. Specifically the polymers are partly polyglycos e.g. polyalkylene glycol.</p> |
