Suspension strut for motor vehicles - has two rod and cylinder combinations which form two fluid springs

The suspension strut is for motor vehicles which are subjected to a wide range of loading conditions. The strut has two cylinders each of which contains a compressible, hydraulic medium while the cylinders are axially aligned. There are two displacement rods (26a) whose end sections are arranged concentrically within the non-adjacent ends of the first or second cylinder and can reciprocate through these non adjacent ends to compress the hydraulic medium. The ratio of total inner vol. of the first cylinder to the volumetric displacement per unit of axial length of the first rod is different to the corresponding ratio of the second cylinder and second rod. Consequently, the combination of first rod and cylinder forms a fluid spring.
