<p>PURPOSE:To ignite and to burn fine particles contained in the exhaust on a filter at a low temperature, by a method wherein a flow of exhaust is mostly shut off by a flow path direction control valve while a filter is regenerated, and at the same time, small volume of exhaust is fed to the filter from a limited opening of the valve, in the titled apparatus such as a Diesel engine. CONSTITUTION:The exhaust, containing carbon, comes up to a filter 3 from an exhaust pipe 1a through an exhaust bypass pipe 1d, and fine particles are collected here by a filter 3. When the filter 3 comes to a predetermined clogged condition, the exhaust pressure in a pipe 1d rises, a pressure sensor 8 senses it, and a combustion assistant feed device 4 is actuated, as well as a flow path direction control valve 11 is changed, to inject a combustion assistant to a filter 3 from a feed pipe 6. The particles on the filter is ignited and burnt at a temperature below the igniting temperature. At this time, the pipe 1d is closed and does not flow a large volume of exhaust to a filter 3, so that a phenomenon of extinguishing fire on the particles is prevented. Besides, the limited opening 9 of a valve 11 feeds a small volume of air to the filter, which is necessary for particles in order to continue combustion.</p> |
