An apparatus for making holes in a wall for attaching the brackets for a washbasin consists of a plate-like body (1). This body has parallel and cylindrical holes (13, 14) at the same spacing as the holes which are to be made in the wall for the brackets' fastenings. On the body's one flat side (2), there is a centre mark (17) in the middle between the holes (13, 14) and a position determination device (4) corresponding to a given point on the washbasin. Further, the body (1) has at least one bearing plate (7) for a spirit level (8) and this bearing plate is parallel with a plane (12) through the holes' cylindrical axes.
