The intra-uterine device (IUD) is in the shape of a 'T', with a main stem (18) and a pair of flexible arms (19,20). It is inserted into the uterus by a device which comprises an elongate cannula (8) and a hollow guide body (4). A long pusher (2) slides within the bore of the body to push the IUD out through the end of the cannula. While the IUD is in the cannula, the arms are folded flat against the stem but spring back to their normal position when ejected from the cannula. The guide body has a pair of diametrically opposed holes defined by cooperating shoulders (28,30,32,34) formed at the top of the body near where it joins the cannula. When the IUD is loaded into the guide, the two arms extend through these openings.
|
