Deep roller profiling of cylindrical metal blanks without internal cracking.. Is effected in the convergent throat formed between two rollers rotating in same direction. The roll is maintained constant during profiling and excess material is extruded into an escape gap between the rollers to form a flash on the work. Steel, copper and aluminium may be profiled, preferably hot. Heavy deformation and deep profiling is effected to form coarse screw threads, helically toothed articles, worm gears, headed stud blank for screw or bolt, rollers and ball for roller bearing. A series of articles joined together by webs which can be severed may also be formed. |
