<p>The shaft seal consists of a flexible sealing ring (4) held against the rotating shaft (1) by a spiral spring (5). The seal is supported in the housing (2) by pressed steel rings (6,7) which are also in liaison with a labyrinth sealing component (26). The steel ring (7) and the sealing component (26) form a pocket (9) with openings (10) in the bottom. Leak-off fluid passes through the openings (10) to cool the sealing ring (4). The hot fluid is finally channelled through the helical labyrinth (11) away from the point of contact (8) of the seal.</p> |
