<p>The device includes a nozzle or sleeve which is immersed vertically into the steel bath and is fed with powder under pressure by a lateral feed screw rotating in a tube into which powder is metered by a distributor. The feed screw pushes the powder into a delivery pipe, issuing into the nozzle or sleeve, and is rotated by a reduction motor. The assembly is mounted on a support which can be controlled w.r.t. height, tilt, direction and axial extension. Devices are provided for fixing the tube at any orientation and position and for preventing contact of air with the powder at high temp. The device is esp. useful for adding powdered reducing agent to molten steel in a casting ladle, tundish or ingot mould. The device is simple, compact and easily controlled and provides a uniform supply of agent, e.g. silicocalcium, in the absence of air.</p> |
