The backrest is divided into upper and lower parts (5,6) wherein the lower part (6) is fixed to the backrest support (9) by means of the main axis (7). The upper part (5) is designed to swivel relative to the lower part (6) about an auxiliary axis (8) which lies in the lower backrest part (6) and runs parallel to the main axis. By dividing the backrest in two and using two axes the upper and lower parts of the backrest can be adapted individually and independently to the spinal column of the user thus providing maximum support and comfort.
