The lid of the microfilm reader serves as the viewing screen onto which the frames are projected. The optics, film holder and lamp are mounted inside a base section which is itself split into a bottom plate and an upper section. The upper section is hinged to swing up about a rear axis and expose the optics and lamp for repair access. The film holder swings up with the upper section so that the film guides can be reached. The two base sections are locked together by a turnscrew and the whole reader folds into a compact case with a carrying handle.
