The invention relates to a method and devices for producing contact surfaces on aluminium rails. A machined end (2) of a rail (1) is provided with a U-shaped cap (8) which is formed by bending a cut-out element which has a copper layer and an aluminium layer. The cap is subsequently welded on with its two side pieces (9 and 10) and these side pieces are subjected to dressing in the press. This method can be used in an expedient manner for producing contact surfaces in the connecting regions of busbars. <IMAGE>
