A spraying box which can be used in particular in a paint spray device is provided. In said spraying box, the air contaminated with spray agent particles or droplets is sucked from a spraying region into a scrubbing chamber (13), at high velocity, over a free surface (15) of a liquid scrubbing agent in a tank (11). The air entrains liquid scrubbing agent. In the scrubbing chamber (13), the sprayed particles or droplets are scrubbed out of the air stream by entrained scrubbing agent, and the scrubbed air then emerges from the spraying box. The scrubbing agent containing the contaminant passes back into the tank (11), where the contaminants are deposited in the form of a slurry. The upper part of the scrubbing agent tank (11) is open over essentially the entire width and essentially the entire depth of the spraying box, scrubbing agent passing through the scrubbing chamber (13) together with the air stream falling back directly into the open upper part of the scrubbing agent tank (11). <IMAGE>
