The set consists of a water turbine (21) coupled to a generator (23) supplying a network with constant frequency. The axial turbine has non-adjustable blades (22) (propeller turbine). The stator winding (31) of the generator is connected to the network via a frequency-controlled converter (43). The speed of the set can be adjusted smoothly to accord with the power to be delivered. If the generator is an asynchronous type, the stator is best located on the inside and provided with a water-tight sheath (37) and flanged to the turbine tube (39). The water-tight sheath may be made of plastics reinforced with glass fibres. The overhang (32) of the stator winding is bent over at 90 degrees. The rotor (24) of the generator has a cage winding (25). The generator produces a frequency of less than 20 Hz when its converter is supplying a network with 50 or 60 Hz.
