The invention relates to a process and apparatus for relieving the tensile force on SZ-stranding machines. The aim of the invention is to produce a uniform stranded structure of appropriate quality by means of SZ-stranding machines. The object according to the invention is, therefore, to reduce to a minimum the tensile-force load on the individual stranding elements before entry into the SZ-stranding machine and to achieve a synchronism of the stranding elements with one another. This object is achieved in that the individual stranding elements (wires) coming from run-off stands or other stores are fed to a guide and thereafter are laid around in an ordered manner, at a looping angle phi , over a driven draw-off disc arranged just in front of the stranding apparatus, the circumferential speed V1 of the draw-off disc being a small amount higher than the draw-off speed of the main draw-off or the stranding speed Vs of the stranding apparatus, and the stranding elements being guided from the draw-off disc by way of the perforated disc to the stranding apparatus with a greatly reduced tensile-force load. <IMAGE>
