PURPOSE:To increase the occupation rate of cores by closely bundling quartz glass bars each having a core part and a cladding part, and by uniting them by melting. CONSTITUTION:Quartz glass bars 1a each having a core part 2a and a cladding part 3a are bundled closely and glass bars 1c are packed in gaps to obtain a glassbar bundle body 5A. This body is elongated by heating and melting to form an optical glass material 6A. Consequently, the occupation rate of the cores is increased.
