PURPOSE:To obtain titled ester having a high HLB, excellent water solubility and good surface activity and activity and being suitable as a nonpollutive neutral surfactant, by the transesterification of reduced dextrin with a fatty acid ester. CONSTITUTION:Reduced dextrin, average degree of polymerization 3-10, is prepared by hydrogenating a dextrin obtained by hydrolyzing starch with the aid of alpha-amylase or the like at high temperature and pressure in the presence of a reducing catalyst such as Raney nickel. Next, the reduced dextrin is transesterified with at least one 8-18C saturated or unsaturated fatty acid ester, e.g., methyl sterate or methyl oleate, preferably in a solvent such as dimethylformamide in the presence of a basic catalyst such as potassium carbonate to obtain title ester, degree of esterification 0.14-0.31. |
