Battery separators are provided for maintenance-free lead-acid batteries. From 10 to 90 percent by weight of the fiber content of the battery separator is comprised of a non-metallic acicular mineral, wollastonite, that is substantially less expensive than the microglass fibers used heretofore yet provides comparable, and even superior results with respect to electrolyte absorption and retention characteristics of the battery separator material. The microglass fibers used heretofore also are used in the battery separator of the present invention together with a minor amount, 5-15 percent, of synthetic binder fiber. |
