A circular multifeed knitting machine with provision for tucking and welting has, at each feed, a fixed main stitch cam and an adjustable auxiliary stitch cam which act in succession on different butts of a needle. At four feeds 14-17 are mounted fixed raise cams 26, tuck raise cams 27, guard cams 29, 30, main stitch cams 24 and movable auxiliary stitch cams 25 with guard cams 28. The needles have six butts acting in confined pathways at cam levels 18-23. At say feed 15, all needles with butts at levels 19 and 20 will be raised to clearing height by cams 26, with butts at level 23 confined by the rear face 24c of main stitch cam 24, all needles with butts at level 22 will be raised to tuck height by tuck cams 27 with butts' at level 23 also confined by cam face 24c and, at tuck height, butts at level 22 guarded by cam 29 and all needles with butts at level 21 will pass through the feed with any overthrown needle being lowered by guard cam 30. All raised needles will then be partially lowered by the fixed main stitch cam 24 acting on butts at level 23 with butts at level 19, 20 or 22 guarded by the rear faces 26b or 27b of cams 26 or 27. Adjustable auxiliary stitch cams 25 then act on all butts at level 18 to fully lower needles to knit height with butts at levels 19, 20 or 22 still guarded by the rear faces of cams 26 or 27. To prevent overthrow all butts at level 18 are guarded by cams 28 which are movable with auxiliary stitch cams 25. A second embodiment with a pattern wheel is described in which the pattern wheel acts on butts at one level and the main and auxiliary stitch cams again act on butts at their own levels.</p> |
