<p>VARIABLE SIZE, MULTI-SECTION ARTICLE FOR CONDITIONING FABRICS IN A CLOTHES DRYER A variable size article for conditioning of fabrics in a laundry dryer comprising a multi-section, sheet-like flexible substrate carrying one or more conditioning agents transferable to fabrics when tumbled therewith in a clothes dryer. The dryer operator varies the size of the multi-section flexible substrate to match the amount of fabric conditioning agent to be used to the load size, or quantity of clothes, loaded in the dryer. The fabric conditioning article may comprise synthetics such as polyesters and rayon, or natural materials such as cotton, wool felt, or any cellulosic or non-cellulosic material, and combinations of any of these, in combination with fabric conditioning substance. The substrate material is preferably in sheet form, and may be woven, non-woven, carded web, or formed as a continuous film. Non-woven fibrous materials may be water-laid, air-laid or otherwise formed into sheets. The conditioning materials may be incorporated during fabrication of the article, or may be subsequently combined with the substrate by immersion, padding, spraying, roller contact, brush contact or any convenient means. Typical fabric conditioning agents include cationic fabric softeners, nonionic and anionic surfactants, perfumes, brighteners, crisping agents, sizing materials and combinations of these. The preferred mode of use is in the clothes dryer, but the article may also be used in the washing machine, preferably in the rinse cycle.</p> |
