PURPOSE:A composition for the oral cavity, containing an extract of a plant selected from Aristolochia debilis Sieb et Zucc., Phellodendron amurense Rupr., Curcuma zeodaria Roscoe, Cyperus rotundes L., Pogostemon cablin Benth., Aristolochia kampferi Willd, or Aristolochia contorta Bunge and Hedychium spicatum Sm. with an organic solvent, and useful for preventing the foul breath and periodontosis. CONSTITUTION:A composition for the oral cavity, obtained by incorporating an extract of a plant selected from Aristolochia debilis Sieb et Zucc., Phellondendron amurense Rupr., Curcuma zeodaria Roscoe, Cyperus rotundes L., Pogostemon cablin Benth., Aristolochia kampferi Willd. or Aristolochia contorta Bunge and Hedychium spicatum Sm. with an organic solvent in an amount of 0.001-5wt%, preferably 0.01-2wt%, based on the total composition, with a composition for the oral cavity, e.g. a dentifrice, mounth-wash, oral pasta, troche, chewing gum or tablet for collutorium, and capable of exhibiting improved antimicrobial activity against Fusobacterium nucleatum which is a causative germ of foul breath and periodontosis. The extract with the organic solvent has high safety and exhibits a high effect even at a relatively low concentration and therefore the composition exhibits high safety in use. |
