A friction clutch has its cover formed with an adaptor ring(24) which converts the clutch from a single disc clutch into a multiple disc clutch. The adaptor ring is attached to the clutch cover and comprises a sheet metal annular element with radially inner and outer skirts interconnected by a central portion. The central portion(34) and the inner skirt have apertures to afford at least one slot(38) in the element to receive a lug of an intermediate clutch plate.
