PURPOSE:Titled resin having excellent solubility in petroleum-derived solvents and being suitable for a vehicle for offset rotary press inks, prepared by reacting, a novolak-resol type precondensate with rosin at high temperature. CONSTITUTION:A high-melting rosin-modified phenol resin containing a resin of the formula, wherein X is H, K or Na. The above resin is prepared by reacting a phenol, e.g., p-nonylphenol, with an aldehyde, e.g., paraformaldehyde, in an acidic range to form a reaction product having at least three phenol nuclei, further reacting the reaction product in an alkaline range to form a novolak-resol type precondensate and reacting the precondensate with rosin at 150 deg.C or higher. |
