Biological fluids such as serum or plasma are often turbid which makes their analysis difficult. Reagents for reducing this turbidity comprise a surfactant of the formula where R is alkyl or alkenyl of 5 to 17 carbon atoms, and x and y are integers whose sum is no more than 11; and cholesterol esterase or lipase. The reagents are used as buffered aqueous solutions.
