The finger guard is made of a flexible, plastics element in the shape of a heart. The two petal-shaped upper sections (3,4) are placed over the top of the ampoule and the guard is folded along its axis of symmetry so that the point rests against the body of the ampoule. The upper parts are gripped between the thumb and index finger and the top of the ampoule is broken off along the line of least resistance. The guard prevents the fingers from being cut by broken glass and from being exposed to the substance in the ampoule.
