The sea-water to be treated, after having been drawn through a strainer by a pump, calibrated for pressure and output, is sent by pulses through a distributing system; the latter sets up a lateral alternating movement which causes a diffuser to deposit a calibrated film of water over the whole contact surface of an evaporating bed which is heated continuously to keep it at a constant temperature. Evaporation takes place in a steam-tight chamber; the steam is exhausted by a double acting turbine which simultaneously draws in external preheated air. This air-steam feed is blown through a honeycomb radiator, cooled to 5 degrees C by a refrigerating unit; this causes the instantaneous condensation of the steam into soft water and a separation of the added air. Soft water is thus produced, at a low cost, which is directly suitable for industrial and maritime uses.
|
