The invention relates to an asymmetric rotating-disc contactor for treating flowing media, in particular for liquid extraction, in the column shell of which are provided axially next to each other a mixing space and a transfer space. In the mixing space are arranged a plurality of horizontal trays and a disc agitator, the driven agitator discs of which are situated between the trays. To increase the performance of the column without impairing the good operating characteristics inherent to this column type, holes (8) of a diameter between 1 and 20 mm are provided in at least some of the trays (2). The total open surface area formed by the sum of the holes is about 10-35% of the total complete tray surface area. <IMAGE>
