Fluid propulsion device - with hinged reciprocating apron formed by freely movable louvres

A propulsion device for liqs., esp. for the horizontal motion of sewage in aeration ducts or circular basins, consists of a hinged apron which is reciprocated in the direction of propulsion periodically. The apron consists of louvres which form in the forward direction an impermeable area but open up during the return stroke. The apron is mounted on a frame which can be reciprocated around the horizontal spindle by a crank mechanism with a connecting rod. The apron consists of vertical louvres which are hinged at one end and overlap each other. This creates a simpler device than impellers and is more silent than paddle wheels. It requires little maintenance.
