An engine mounting arrangement has elastomer mounting blocks, which are arranged between laterally extending arms connected to the engine and a cross member of the chassis close to supports fixed to its outer ends. In the event of a rolling motion of the engine, the blocks can be subjected to a shearing action about an axis essentially extending in a longitudinal direction. The arrangement also has a mounting unit with an elastomer part defining a chamber, which part can be freely subjected to a shearing action without varying the volume of the chamber defined by this when the engine rolls, but which experiences a variation of the volume when the engine pitches or oscillates in the vertical direction. Due to the variation of the volume a working fluid is pumped from the chamber through a flow limiter into a second chamber of variable volume so that a vertical movement of the engine is heavily damped, whereas rolling is permitted without restriction. By means of the arrangement, the transmission of oscillations from the engine to the chassis, and the tendency of the cross member itself to oscillate, are reduced to a minimum.
