AROMATIC SULFONEIMIDE AND ITS PRODUCTION

PURPOSE:To remove easily the metallic ion in treated water while accelerating the oxidation of ferrous ion in the stage of subjecting the acidic waste water produced in treating a steel material to an activated sludge treatment by specifying the relation between the concn. of the total org. carbon in the waste water and the concn. of the activated sludge in an aeration tank. CONSTITUTION:The acidic waste water which is produced in treating the surface of a steel material and in which ferrous ion and org. compd., etc. coexist is treated by an aerobic activated sludge method using iron oxidizing bacteria. The relation between the concn. (MLSS) of the activated sludge in an aeration tank and the concn. (TOC) of the total org. carbon in the raw water supplied is maintained under the condition TOC(mm.g/l)<=0.007XMLSS(mm.g/l)-110. The aeration is more preferably performed at such oxidation reduction potential in the aeration tank which is so controlled as to attain +750-850mV (on the basis of hydrogen electrode), then the ferrous ion is oxidized roughly 100% to ferric ion and the org. compd. is decomposed roughly 100%. The metallic ion in the treated water is then removed by a conventional method.
