PURPOSE:To obtain a superior image forming member by forming a photoconductive layer interspersedly (in island shapes) on a substrate by using a photoconductive material other than amorphous silicon, then providing an amorphous silicon layer (a-Si layer) contg. H or halogen over the entire surface. CONSTITUTION:Inorg. or org. photoconductive areas 103 are formed interspersedly on a conductive substrate 101 at about 10mu thickness, diameter and pitch spacing by spray coating through a mask, vacuum deposition or the like. Next, an a-Si layer 104 contg. H or halogen is formed over the entire surface by a glow electric discharge method or the like by using SiH4, SiF4 or the like, whereby an image forming member 100 for electrophotography having a photoconductive layer 102 is obtained. it is possible to control the layer 104 to p-, n- or i-type by doping impurities thereto. In this way, productivity, electric and optical characteristics and durability are improved, and the sharp images of excellent halftones are obtained. |
