The ash tray (2) for a vehicle is connected to a spray can (1) which can be operated so that liquid is discharged onto the burning cigarette end (3) to quench it. The ash tray can be mounted on the inside of a car door, and the spray can may be conveniently placed in a pocket on the door, and connected to the ash tray by a flexible tube. In another form, the spray can is mounted directly against the wall of the ash tray, so that its nozzle discharges directly inside. The liquid inside the soray can may include odour dispersing and anti-freeze ingredients. Proportions of the ingredients are listed. The spray can may also be mounted in a carrier designed for attachment to a suitable support, and may be a pump operated device.
