<p>A thermally efficient integrated liquefaction- gasification process for producing a solid hydrocarbon fuel of low ash content as the main product of the process is provided, in which coal feed, hydrogen and recycled distilled liquid solvent are passed into a coal liquefaction area to dissolve and hydrogenate the hydrocarbon material present in the feed coal and produce a suspension comprising distilled liquid, normally solid dissolved coal and an insoluble mineral residue. A portion of the normally solid dissolved coal and the undissolved organic material is separated from the suspension to provide a feed suspension to the gasifier which contains between approximately 15 and approximately 35% by weight of organic vacuum ends which are caused to pass through a gasification zone and are converted into synthesis gas which is converted into a hydrogen-rich flow for the liquefaction zone and partly used as a fuel in the process.</p> |
