A method for the production of HCl comprises heating calcium chloride with a molar excess of SiO2 having a surface area of at least 15m<2>/gm at a temperature in excess of 600 DEG C in the presence of water vapour, suitably in a fluidized bed reactor. Silica residues from acid processes, and calcium chloride waste, may advantageously be used. By-product CaSiO3 is also useful for thermal insulation.
|
