Static device consists of a chassis clamped against the underside of the baseplate on the tundish via one or more fixing points. The chassis is employed to hold a nozzle (I) which is located in the bore of a nozzle brick fitted in a recess in the baseplate. Directly below the nozzle (I) is a coaxial and replaceable outlet nozzle (II) controlling the flow of the molten steel out of the tundish. At least one of the two nozzles is pref. monolithic, or contains an insert made e.g. of stabilised ZrO2, or electrically melted alumina; and at least one of the nozzles pref. has a conical exterior. Nozzle (II) may dip into the molten steel in a mould located below the tundish. When the bore of nozzle (II) is worn, it can easily be replaced in a very short time, so there is min. loss of productive time. |
