[Also in Division C3] Substrates such as leather, woven and non- woven fabrics, and paper are treated by coating with a composition comprising (a) an aqueous dispersion of a polymer containing 50-100% of units of an aliphatic acrylic and/or methacrylic ester having 2-4 C atoms in the alcohol radical, (b) 3-20% (based on the weight of the polymer) of a montan wax which has been bleached with chromic acid and esterified with ethylene glycol, and (c) 5-25% by weight of stearyl stearate. The polymer in (a) may also contain units of vinyl esters, unsaturated acids and esters, nitriles and amides thereof, styrene and derivatives thereof, vinyl lactams and vinyl ethers. The coating compositions may include an emulsifier, e.g. polyethoxylated sperm oil alcohol.
