<p>Continuous and simultaneous production of isopropanol (IPA) and methylethyl ketone (MEK) is by the Meerwein, Ponndorf and Verley method by mixing acetone and sec butyl alcohol (SBA) in molar ratio 1:1-1:10 and treating with Al-sec. butylate as 20-100 degrees C and normal pressure (pref. 0.01-1.5 mols Al-s butylene per mol acetone is used) IPA and MEK are distilled off as azeotropic mixture MEK is solvent for varnishes and plastics and is used to deparaffinated and lubricating oils.</p> |
