The appts. has a metal plate which is cooled using the Peltier effect. The metal junctions are formed as a slab whose lower surface is cooled and upper surface heated by the Peltier effect. The slab is supplied by a low voltage direct current obtained by rectification of AC voltage transformed down from the AC mains voltage. A temp. sensor may be incorporated to switch the current, and a heat exchanger may be fitted to the upper (warm) junction to extract the heat. This may be either fan or circulating fluid cooled. Multiple units may be connected in parallel from the same electrical supply. The body is enclosed in a sleeping bag type container having very low thermal conductivity.
