<p>The protective cover for a solar energy collector (1) comprises a set of hinged panels. The panels are hinged along the long edges (2,3) of the rectangle and along one short edge and fold over in order to cover the collector, each long panel covering the whole collector surface. Cables (5,7) attached to the free edge of the folding panels are used to pull them into the closed position. The inside surfaces of the folding panels are reflective, and when open, lie at an angle of 45 degrees to the collector surface so as to enlarge the effective energy collecting area of the panels. The cables used to fold the panels down also limit the extent to which the panels may open.</p> |
