The device provides prop legs (1,2)for boats which can be grounded in tidal waters. They are automatically positioned by pivoting and are retractable after use, fitting into recesses in the hull. The props can be actuator operated from a hydraulic pump. A pinion is rotated and this moves a rack and, in turn, a crank (13). The rack and crank move in a straight line, turning the prop (1) on its axis. A bellows (15) seals the rod crank from sea water and the prop casing ( 22) is further sealed by another seal (14) in which the rod crank slides.
