1297738 Xylenes IDEMITSU PETROCHEMICAL CO Ltd 19 April 1971 [18 March 1970] 24295/71 Heading C5E Xylenes are produced by adding a reaction product obtained by dealkylating toluene to preheated heavy aromatic hydrocarbons boiling in the range 145-200‹ C., and then subjecting the mixture to dealkylation in the presence of hydrogen (the mol. ratio of heavy hydrocarbons to which is 1 : 2 to 1 : 10) and a catalyst comprising chromium oxide and/or molybdenum oxide carried on alumina, at a temperature of 460‹ to 600‹ C., a liquid space velocity of 1 to 4 per hour and a presence of 10-60 atmospheres.
