The subject-matter is the constructional design of a wiping device for cleaning windscreens of motor vehicles, the central plane of the wiping strip remaining constantly perpendicular with respect to the wiping point on the windscreen (7). The device has a drive arm (1) which is connected to a drive shaft, and a wiping element (4, 5) which is connected via a cylindrical joint (2) to the drive arm (1). The wiping element (4) is assigned an identically shaped guide element (5). The central planes of the two elements run parallel to each other and at the particular wiping point stand perpendicularly on the windscreen to be cleaned. <IMAGE>
